About half-an-hour ago, as I contemplated this new day's sunrise : the clouds moving, the moon giving me a smiley, the singular star I could see in the sky - that seemed to be twinkling just for me, I couldn't help but be in awe of this world we live in and that we take for granted - that I, too often, take for granted. It amazed me even more how God created this planet, within this galaxy, and universe with such beauty, order, excellence; and purpose!
It made me think of this verse in the Bible verse
"When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?"
- Psalm 8:3-4
We are so infinitely small in the scale of the expanding universe, most of the physical things we do is vanity. Our time on earth is so minute in the eternal span of time. Our works might change a few lives, hundreds, thousands, millions, or even 7 billion people; even then, As Ravi Zacharias often says, "when the workman dies, God's work continues." Life will continue : the sun will rise, the day will pass, the sun will set; Babies will be born, Elders will die, society will continue...Life will go on.
Yet still, as human beings, we have such an intrinsic value because of the sacred life of God present inside each one of us. The Spirit of The Creator and Mastermind of the Universe is residing within us - we might not be fully conscious of it, but the Spirit is there. And because the probability of life to emerge in a tiny planet in this immense universe was 1/1-to-the-trillion+ , and yet it did happen, by the fine-tuning of its Creator, our God; the Fact that there was thought and a plan for our earth, gives each one of us so much meaning, and purpose. As Rick Warren says, God shaped each one of us in a specific way, so that we may serve a Purpose during our century (give or take some years) as human beings.
But are we living according to our SHAPE ? What are we doing about it? Do we consult with our Maker to know if He designed us for what we are doing with our lives? Are we letting material comfort dictate our living, our essence, our life? Material comfort? Things that can end in a click of a finger - a natural disaster (earthquake, flood, erosion...name it), a war, a terrorist attack, a totalitarian state lacking rule-of-law... I mean, all these things and so many more can be snatched out of our hands without our permission; yet, we (too often) allow all that, instead of our Maker shape our lives.
What a wasted life it could be, living as a rectangle when we were designed to be a circle!
So as I'm reflecting this morning, on my place in this life, my SHAPE, my purpose, I'm also reminding myself that today, when I think of the things that tie my spirit down, burden my heart, make me be an uglier version of myself (getting angry quickly, vindicative, scheming, manipulative, easily offended, mean, negative, jealous, envious and unforgiving); today and the days ahead, when I would want to laser-in on some of the insignificant fluff of life and tend to be a life-sucker vs a life-giver with my words and actions, I hope I will be reminded of the picture when I review this early morning introspective reflection about this world we live in within this vast universe. And even if I can't re-re-read my words, I pray thst Gods Holy Spirit will open my eyes, remind my mind, and warm my heart, to what is essential in this universe perfectly crafted for our human life to exist, to be valuable and significant.
May I be constantly reminded of the bigger picture, the essential : my position in the span of life, and my role to make life and this planet a little bit better, before the time arrives for my soul to transition back to my source of life.
Then, I hope my God, Yahweh, Heavenly Father, Creator of this Universe, and Mastermind of the human creation, will tell my soul "Well Done."
