It was amazing to work with 100
students of the Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Mendong, during the
launch of a 6-month mentorship program between the Gender Equity Working Group
(GEWG) of the U.S Embassy and the Gender Issues and Development Club (GIDC) of
GBHS Mendong.
Every month during the school year, embassy volunteers will lead session with students to improve their skills in communication, writing, public speaking, interviewing, problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making, self-respect; just to name a few.
The goal of this mentorship program is to equip Cameroonian teens with the skills and information they need to (1) respect and uphold gender-equity values in their personal, academic and community environment, (2) be responsible, valuable and competitive global citizens, and (3) smoothly transition from ‘teenagehood’ into adulthood.
