IDP-goods : Highlight of a laudable initiative led by YALI MWF Cameroon

Cameroon’s Mandela Washington Fellows Alumni of the YALI program teamed up from all three classes (2014, 2015, 2016) to execute the IDP-Goods: A project to increase the monthly income of 300 internally displaced persons (IDPs) , displaced by the violence of Boko Haram in the Far North region, by developing business cooperatives through which IDPs will produce goods (African apparels, shea butter and artisanal products) to be sold in Cameroonian urban markets and international market. 




The team is made up of : Charlie Wandji (MWF 2014 / Project manager of IDP-Goods / CEO of 1task1job.com ), Balkisou Buba (MWF 2015 / Training Facilitator of IDP-Goods / Vice-coordinator of REPALEAC (Network of indigenous people)), Kedi Beh Emmanuel (Legal expert), Mohamadou Aminou (MWF 2016/ Field Coordinator #1 of IDP Goods/ Service head of Adamawa Regional Delegation of Public Contracts),  Justice Daniel Nde Tawembe (MWF 2016/ Field Coordinator #2 of IDP Goods / Judge & Magistrate of the Court of First Instance of Mokolo), Pascal Anengbah (MWF 2016/ Operations Manager of IDP-Goods/ Project Manager of Food Aid for Improving Nutrition by Counterpart International), Vumomsi Vutumu Ngwefonta’a (MWF 2016/ Training Coordinator of IDP-Goods/ CEO of VUVU), Christelle Bay Chongwain (MWF 2014/ Project Specialist of IDP-Goods / President of HOFNA), Cedrick Kenfack (2016 YALI Regional Leadership Center – Dakar / Creative Designer of IDP Goods / Co-Founder of Sweet Art’frika). Rosine Yan'none (Senior Advisor of IDP Goods/ Expert in CVE projects) and Alain Nteff (IT Developper and Focal Point of IDP Goods / CEO of Giftedmom.org ) .





They have conducted multiple trips to the Far North, to discuss with local authorities, meet with the IDPs and assess their needs and skills, 
 




to equip more women to increase their sources of income, so that they may sustain their families, 





to empower thousands of teenagers in Secondary schools on CVE messaging, 
 



and to implant a production factory for IDPs to produce goods that will be sold in urban and international markets.

  1. Waohhhhhh this is a perfect solution at a much needed time with all the harms and discomfort by Boko Haraam that have left this IDP without hope. This project is a source of hope to them at a time when they felt all hope was gone. Kudos guys. This is definitely the way forward.
