It's been a while I haven't blogged, bcause now I tweet more abt my thoughts, or use tumblr : http://blessgivelove.tumblr.com/ But this blog has been my 1st Love, whom I can't abandon.
My thought today is on the parallel I've seen between my organization ( http://www.harambecameroon.org/ ) collaboration with other organizations ; and African heads of states difficulty to establish strong national-relationships and working towards a Panafrican-ization of Africa - a United States of Africa.
There are a couple of organizations with whom we started discussing collaboration plans, but one of these 4 things happened (and I am guilty of one of it):
1. One party was greedy : wanted 80% of the pie
2. One party was over-emotional : This pesson gets on my nerves, I don't want to work with them.
3. One party was a slacker : passionate about collaborating but can't back it up with hardwork.
4. One party had an ego too big : This person hurt my feelings, I can't deal with him/her.
After one of these things happened, the talks of collabration ceased, each one went their separate ways, and did what they were doing without the other. Each person thinking (proudly & confidently) : "I have done, and I can do without you anyways!"
I am guilty of this. Emotional & Ego-tripping.
But with introspection, questioning myself, and also the strong vision living in me, I know - my soul, spirit, and conscience - tells me that's not the way to go. If giants like Google + Youtube came together is because they saw and realized the power of coming together to do something bigger than their individual institutions.
That's one of the reasons I initiated the "Am I Doing Something?" campaign on facebook - to bring us, young Africans doing exceptional things within our country (Cameroon) and accross the world, so we can:
1st - Know each other
2nd- Support each other
3rd - Sing from one chorus "Am I Doing Something? .... And you? Are you doing smething?" so that together (not individualy - albeit our impressive individual works) we can inspire and engage so many other young people to stop asking "what our country can do for us, but what we can do for our country?" https://www.facebook.com/AmIDoingSomething
If we can put our individual egoes aside, and see the vision we have for a more vibrant Cameroon and Africa, we will transcend our minor clashes + frictions , and work together for the benefit of our people. We cannot allow ourselves to act in the same ways as our heads-of-states, who have so much power, so much leverage, so much influence to effect change in our nations; yet who let their egoes & emotions take over what's more important : The possibility to develop & advance each country to help our people.
I'll end with Hellen Keller (the deaf, dumb & blind woman who changed the world) once said: The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.
Let us not let our emotional deafness, dumbness and blindless be the tragedy of the realization of the United States of Africa by our generation. Let us not lose sight, and let us not lose the vision.
Bless, Give, Love
Oli .
